7)‘Coldrif’ deaths: medical representative of pharma company arrested in M.P.
A medical representative named Satish Verma from Sresan Pharmaceuticals, a Tamil Nadu-based company, has been arrested in Chhindwara district, Madhya Pradesh. This arrest is connected to the deaths of 25 children due to renal failure after consuming "Coldrif" cough syrup, which was found to be adulterated with over 46% Diethylene Glycol (DEG), a toxic industrial solvent.
Verma is the sixth person arrested in the case, joining the pharma company owner G. Ranganathan, and Dr. Praveen Soni, who prescribed the medicine. Verma had been with the company for 30 years and is accused of negligence, having been aware of the company's working conditions and failing to report concerns despite ongoing deaths. Three others linked to Dr. Soni and the medicine's supply chain have also been arrested. Dr. Soni and several drug control officials have been suspended.
