 🏏 India vs South Africa T20 Series Opener: Match Preview

The third and final part of South Africa's tour of India begins today with the first of five T20 International matches in Cuttack.  



🇮🇳 India's Readiness

Form: India has been dominant in T20Is since winning the World Cup last year, winning 26 of 30 matches and all six bilateral series.

Key Returns: Hardik Pandya (quadriceps injury) and Shubman Gill (neck spasm) are back in the squad, boosting the hosts.

Star Man: Opener Abhishek Sharma is in sensational form, leading T20Is this year with 27 sixes and coming off a stellar domestic performance.  

Bowling Boost: Jasprit Bumrah returns to lead the attack after being rested for the ODI series.

Concerns: The form of captain Suryakumar Yadav (averaging 15.33 this year) and Tilak Varma needs to improve.

Venue History: South Africa has won both previous T20Is played at the Barabati Stadium.

🇿🇦 South Africa's Outlook

Form: The Proteas have struggled in the shortest format this year, winning only 5 of 15 matches and only one series since the last T20 World Cup.

Batting Power: They will rely on opener Quinton de Kock, who averages over 50 in T20Is in India, and Dewald Brevis, who has the highest middle-overs strike rate (223) this year.

Bowling Boost: Pacer Anrich Nortje makes his return after a long break, last playing in the 2024 T20 World Cup final.  

All-Rounder: George Linde provides balance with a strike rate of 137 and 27 wickets this year.

Top Bowler: Corbin Bosch has been their best T20 bowler this year with 17 wickets.

Out: Tony de Zorzi and Kwena Maphaka are ruled out due to injury.
