Misusing of funds in MGNREGS , Government taken nice step e-KYC of workers.
According to recent data, a large number of workers have been removed from the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) list after the Central Government mandated e-KYC and the Aadhaar-Based Payment System (ABPS).
As per various media reports and government sources:
Total Workers Removed: Following the commencement of the e-KYC process and the implementation of the Aadhaar-Based Payment System, over 27 lakh MGNREGS workers have been removed from the list.
Objective: The government states that this removal was necessary to eliminate "ghost" and "duplicate" job cards, thereby preventing the misuse of funds.
Concern: However, activists and several states have expressed concern that this process has also led to the exclusion of genuine workers who had minor discrepancies in their Aadhaar details, job cards, or bank accounts, or who did not have access to digital tools.
Impact: This exclusion primarily affects those whose details could not be correctly matched with Aadhaar, who failed the e-KYC verification, or who could not fulfill the necessary conditions to link with the ABPS system.
